What can a hot stone massage do for you?
Just like deep tissue massage, the therapeutic benefits of hot stone massage have been around for centuries. Native American cultures used hot stones to detoxify and to find harmony and balance. Some European cultures used hot stones or bricks wrapped in cloth to give relief to an injured person. The Chinese used hot stone therapy as early as 1500 BC to relieve muscle aches and tension. At LaVida, we use hot stone therapy in much the same way and for many of the same benefits.
Basalt Stones; polished, hardened lava rocks, are heated to about 120°F by water in an electric heater. The heated stones are placed at specific points on the client’s body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways). The heat works in concert with the therapist's pressure to pretrate the muscles and easily perform deep tissue manipulations. This process melts away tension, creating a calming atmosphere. Insomnia and depression can be helped with a hot stone massage. The penetrating heat of the hot stones helps to relieve pain associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, MS, and back pain. This therapy helps with the circulatory system to stimulate the flow of oxygen and nutrients helping the body to detoxify and heal. In summary, it gives you a feeling of overall good health.
LaVida offers hot stones massages as three options. We have a hot stone add-on, which is a sampling of hot stones used in the last fifteen minutes of a regular deep tissue or relaxation massage.
